As of June 2019, The Ascension Wisconsin Libraries no longer circulate BLS / ACLS / or PALS books for the following reasons:

  • The new online program does not follow what's in the old print books.  Thus, they contain out-dated information and may lead people astray.
  • The most up-to-date versions of the text are contained within the online program.
  • Life Support / Librarians are not on site to keep track of these books.  Many books are never returned, or disappear without ever being checked out.
  • The print books are no longer being purchased by Life Support.
  • They are costly to replace.
  • If you really want the print book, we recommend you purchase your own copy through Amazon or other book supplier.  You'll get a better price than Ascension did.

Q: Does the Library check out TNCC Provider Manuals?

A: No.  Please see our Blog for additional information.

Q: How do I get to the Library Pages via the Columbia St. Mary's Intranet?
A: CSM Intranet > Departments & Resources> Library

  • Occasionally, the computer lab can be reserved.  Contact the Mercy Librarian directly about this.

UptoDate

  • Ministry Health Care does not presently offer institutional access to UptoDate, simply because the cost is so expensive.  Library Services does offer reasonable alternatives such as Clinical Key's Clinical Overviews and Medscape
  • For those who insist on having UptoDate, Providers are encouraged to use some of their annual allotted CME money to purchase a personal subscription.

A: 8 am - 4:30 pm Monday - Friday.     Access is by key card 24/7.

Q: Is there a restroom in the library?

A: No.  The nearest restrooms are located in the hospital lobby.  As you exit the library, turn left and walk through the lobby.  The women's & men's restrooms will be to your left.

Q: There's no one at the Library Reference Desk.  How do I check out a book?

A: There is a self-checkout procedure on the Reference Desk, just to the left of the telephone.

  1. Locate the checkout card in the book you'd like to check out.  Look in the front of the book or the back of the book.
  2. Print your department, full first and last name, and associate ID number on the card.
  3. Leave the checkout card at the Reference Desk.  You may place it in the same plastic container in which the self-checkout instructions are posted.
  4. Stamp the due date in your book.  Books check out for 2 weeks.

Where can I get a print copy of the NRP Study Guide?

Only some Ascension locations offer NRP.  These are usually held in the Women's and Families / Birth Center Departments.

Q: Does the Library check out TNCC Provider Manuals?

A: Use the book drop return, located outside of the library, just to the right of the Library door.

Q: Are there headphones that I can use in the Library?

A: Yes.  Ask the Librarian at the Reference Desk.  If no one is available to assist you, you will need to walk behind the Library Reference Desk, through the swinging half-door.  Look down and to the left.  The headphones are in a drawer labeled "Headphones." Please sanitize your headphones prior to returning them to the drawer.  You may use a Sani-Cloth in the gray-topped container.

Q: The printer is out of paper.  Where can I find paper to refill it?

A: You may find reams of paper stacked on the bookshelf next to the photocopier.  Please use this paper to refill printers and the photocopier.

A: The photocopier copies, scans, and faxes.

  1. Scans must be sent to an Ascension email address; it will not send to external email addresses
